The Blind

Inspired by Maeterlincks’ play The Blind, Mart cooperated with visual artist Louise te Poele and composer Warre Simons to create a theatrical experience that sharpens the senses and invites the spectator to perceive anew. The Blind was presented as a result of a theatrical research project at De Nieuwe Oost.

“Like Maeterlinck, Van Berckel is not interested in a theatre that is driven by plot or situation. Instead, he creates static theatre in which a lot happens. Although the text and image are of great importance, they don’t serve a narrative function. In seemingly unimportant words lies the essence.
