Supertramp

“This is the story of our brother

He started walking

And did not come back

Never.”

Chris disappears on the night after his graduation ceremony. No one sees it coming. His two brothers search for answers and clues. Where has their inscrutable little brother gone? What is he running away from – and why? Their search goes right through the wilderness, past abandoned petrol stations and even through their father’s mattress factory. Deeper and deeper, the brothers dive into Chris’s head, and their childhood home, where their mother has been sleeping for years….

SUPERTRAMP (12+) is a musical road movie, a smashing duet between an actor and a drummer. Together they deliver a heartfelt story about freedom, responsibility and expectations. The performance was made especially for the theatre truck of Theater Sonnevanck and Theater Oostpool: intimate, close and in-your-face.

Theaterkrant crowned the performance the “Critic’s Choice” and wrote, “The beauty of Supertramp is actually that it tells two coming-of-age stories in one: Chris’ self-liberation, and his brothers’ grieving process. Jallo must eventually dare to let go of Chris, but to do so he goes through a range of recognizable emotions: shame, self-criticism, anger, loneliness. His little brother ultimately teaches him an important lesson about his own, unfinished emancipation process, and the cast and crew of Supertramp make every step of that emotional journey physically tangible with their never-ending sense of rhythm.”
