A Cherry Orchard

In this radical music theatre interpretation of Chekhov’s classic, we follow the main character Ljubov in the last hallucinatory moments before her death. Ljubov, a noblewoman who has hit rock bottom, is slowly losing grip on her memories. Ghosts from her past pass her by as a dark and musical requiem. Facing her own decay leads to a painful confrontation with the past she idealized so much.

A Cherry Orchard is a bombastic, tragicomic, feverish performance about time, transience and memories, in which fragments of Chekhov’s work are musically and visually told as grim flashbacks. The performance was shown in 2018 and 2019 in several small theaters and at festivals in the Netherlands.
